Konnichiwa! Hope you're all well my little Gent-lets (geez, we need to come up with a good name) and you're having a happy week so far. I've come across this list of questions making its way around various geeky blogs I read, I've decided to give it a go. It has literally been one of the hardest things in my life to do. THE CHOICES!
So, getting straight into it, here's the questions along with my answers. Enjoy!
1. Who is your favorite male anime character?
Masayoshi Hazama from Samurai Flamenco. I've only recently watched this anime but can quite easily say it's now a firm favourite. Masayoshi is kind-hearted, has a strong sense of justice and has admired superheroes, aspiring to be one from the word go. He acts on his strong sense of justice regardless of whether he looks stupid or gets beat up in the process of protecting someone or fighting for something he believes in. It's pretty much how I would view myself, if looking from the outside in, so that's probably why I've taken a strong liking to him.
2. Who is your favorite female character?
Haruno Sakura from Naruto. There are so many to choose from for this question, however there's one scene that has stuck with me all these years that still gives me shivers when watching it. When Sakuru went up against Team Dosu to protect Sasuke and Naruto, she went from whiny kid to kick-ass girl - triggering her transformation into the powerhouse she is today. She was completely outclassed, 1v3 and injured but still managed to hold her own. Watch the (slightly grainy version of the) fight and see for yourself:
3. What is your favorite anime soundtrack?
I think if this means 'soundtrack' as in the instrumental soundtrack of a series, then it definitely has to be Naruto. It's not necessarily better music than others, but the tracks they use for each scene are always on point. Grief and Sorrow is one often used for death scenes and yeesh does it pull at your heart strings. Take a listen:
4. What is your favorite anime opening + animation?
Another tough one as (for all of these questions) there are so many to choose from. I adore watching my anime in full Japanese (with English subs) and they have the best theme songs too. But for this one I think I'm going to have to bring it back to my younger years and go with the opening sequence of the very 1st Pokemon series! The feels. THE FEELS!.
5. What is your favorite anime ending song + animation?
I'll be honest and I admit that I don't really watch the endings anymore. I do know all the opening and ending songs for Naruto, word for word, and so for that reason I'm going to put in my favourite Naruto ending: Wind
6. What is your favorite anime scene?
Oof, this is probably the hardest question as there's just so many!! I pretty much have a favourite scene for each character for all the series I watch. I'm currently re-watching Soul Eater, so I'll soften the question a bit and choose a favourite scene from there -- Maka & Soul's first fight scene against Jack the Reaper:
7. If you could meet an anime character who would it be?
Easy. Totoro! Think of the cuddles!
8. What anime character is most similar to you in terms of personality?
Definitely Masayoshi Hazama. See question 1 ^
9. What is your favorite thing about anime?
There's an amazing variety of different genres and stories you can only tell through animation. Anime is my favourite for of animation as they are brilliantly creative, have crazy-good character designs/development, backgrounds - and the art style and animation itself are sometimes (more often than not) stunning. I occasionally find myself watching a series purely based on it's art/animation style alone.
10. What is your least favorite thing about anime?
Having to deal with people who are ignorant about it. "oh, you watch cartoons then?" is a common one. People seem to think that if something is animated, then it's for kids. Oh how wrong they are.
11. Who are your favorite anime couple?
Ashitaka and San, from Princess Mononoke. Their relationship is basically a love beyond boundaries and symbolises the relationship between humans and nature. They fall for each other when trying to save the Deer God and calm the spirits of the woods, only to realise they have to separate in order to stay true to themselves
12. Who is your favorite anime animal?
Panda from Shirokuma Cafe. I was spinning a few for this question but what I love about Panda is that the creator did an amazing job at capturing the personality of a panda. Lazy, slow, constantly eating bamboo. It's a stark contrast and completely refreshing to so a harmless character in an anime. He may not be kick-ass, but he is one of the most lovable.
13. What was the first anime you ever watched?
I've been watching anime as long as I can remember. I can't actually remember which one I watched 1st, but it either: Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball or Sailor Moon.
14. What is your favorite genre of anime?
I'd say anything that is action-focused. I don't mind watching dramas or light-hearted comedies. But you can't beat a good fight scene. (just look at that amazing bridge to the next question!)
15. What is the best anime fight scene?
Another question I literally can't give a straight answer to. There are 100s of major battles I could choose from in Dragonball Z alone. A fight from a recent anime I've watched that I thought was pretty awesome was in the film 'Sword of the Stranger'. The choreography is amazing and the art style is truly gorgeous. I won't be able to praise it enough to do it justice, so it's probably best you take a look for yourself:
And lastly, I'd like to pop in one of the weirdest fight scenes I've ever seen too. It's from a show called Nichijou - just... take a look. I can't tell if it's hilarious or just jaw dropping. What do you think?
There you have it. I hope you've enjoyed something a little different for a change. If you watch anime, I'd love to see your answers! So feel free to complete this 'tag' and pop me a link to your post so I can have a nosey.
